I met Neil when I was touring with Kim Carnes, who was also managed by Neil's manager at the time, Elliot Abbott. After the tour, Neil's drummer, Andrew Steele, quit and Neil asked me to join the band So I quit the Sanford Townsend band, who I had been rehearsing with right before we were to do the first Sanford Townsend album, in order to work with Neil. However, for some reason, Andrew then changed his mind about quitting, and I was left with the option of going back, hat in hand so to speak, to my good friends in the S&T Band and telling them that I would like to reconsider my resignation. Thankfully, they accepted me back and I got to go down to the famous Mussel Shoals recording studio and work with the great producer, Jerry Wexler, on the first self-contained band project he had ever produced. After the Sanford Townsend band's first album and tour were finished, I went on the road with Mac Davis. During that tour, I got a call from Elliot saying that Neil wanted me to join the band.
